JP Enterprises Recalls JP-5™ Firing Pins and Bolt Carriers Due to Inter-Generational Component Incompatibility

In order to ensure the highest level of safety for our products and protection of our customers, JP Enterprises is issuing a voluntary recall of select JP-5™ firing pins for replacement and bolt carriers for modification. Affected firing pins were shipped in rifles and as components between September 2022 and September 2023 while affected bolt carriers were shipped as early as February 2023 to present. This includes firing pins shipped during the improved firing pin replacement mailing from JP that took place starting September of 2022.

It was discovered that the revision of the JP-5™ firing pin design released during this period could cause an unsafe malfunction of the rifle when combined with the current revision JP-5™ bolt carriers. The danger only presents itself when installing a firing pin from the affected revision—whether from an older rifle or as a separately purchased replacement component—into a newer JP-5™ bolt carrier. When combined, the firing pin has the potential to become lodged in the firing pin channel of the bolt carrier, which could produce an accidental discharge.

No rifle containing both of these incompatible parts was ever assembled or released by JP, so any JP-5™ rifle that does not exhibit this behavior now is safe to use. Nevertheless, to reduce as much as possible the threat of incompatible components being combined, JP has elected to (1) recall and replace all affected firing pins, and (2) recall and modify all affected bolt carriers. This voluntary is applicable to JP-5™ rifles, upper assemblies and firing pin kits (JP5-FPK).

These firing pins can be identified by examining and measuring the head size with a set of calipers. The recalled pins will measure .194”. The subsequent and current revision of the firing pin measures .168” and are safe to use.

Firing Pin & Bolt Carrier Identification

Affected bolt carriers can be identified by reference to the lot number marked on the carrier as show. The affected lot code is B22-81329.

As of this publication, all current JP-5™ bolt carriers have been modified to ensure that this incompatibility issue cannot occur with parts shipping from this point forward.

If you determine that you have an affected firing pin or bolt carrier, please follow this link to fill out the return form below.

  • Firing Pins: Once your form is submitted, JP will ship you the newest generation JP-5™ firing pin featuring an improved nitride finish along with a return shipping label for your current firing pin.
  • Bolt Carriers: Once your form is submitted, JP will ship you a return shipping label for your bolt carrier. Once received, we will perform a next-day modification on the carrier and return it to you.

To help incentivize the return of these parts, JP will issue a coupon code for each returned component redeemable for a JP-5™ replacement parts kit, including several new and improved components for your rifle. This code can be redeemed at jprifles.com as part of your next order.
